Adobe Premiere Pro in the future with updated plug-ins?
- Does EDIUS 2.5
currently contain the following features?
1. What is EDIUS?
Canopus EDIUS is a non-linear editing
application designed and engineered from the ground up. It is not an
enhancement to existing Canopus Edit applications, nor is it a plug-in for
any other 3rd party software. EDIUS has been designed to streamline the
editing process, and expand on realtime capabilities previously unavailable
in non-linear applications, while at the same time delivering the
reliability and quality that Canopus editing software boasts.
2. What are the
new features in EDIUS 2.5?
An extensive list of new features, including
screenshots, can be found on
this page.
3 . Does
EDIUS 2.5 require any specific Canopus hardware?
No – EDIUS supports both OHCI FireWire-based PCs and notebooks in addition
to PCs that feature a Canopus realtime DV board.
4. Is there an
advantage to using either OHCI or a Canopus hardware board with EDIUS 2.5?
OHCI functionality provides support for a wide
range of systems and importantly, notebook compatibility. Canopus realtime
DV editing cards greatly increase the realtime performance of EDIUS 2.5. RAM
optimization and the onboard hardware realtime DV codec relieve the system
CPU of rendering, providing EDIUS 2.5 with more power for complex,
multi-track compositions.
Both OHCI and Canopus realtime DV boards provide realtime DV output from the
EDIUS 2.5 timeline.
As a comparative example, o n a Pentium 4 2.8GHz machine (with
Hyper-Threading support), the realtime performance difference between a
system with OHCI and with a DVStorm will be as below:
OHCI
– realtime playback of three video streams (can't apply 3D
Picture-in-Picture image over a transition without framedrop)
DVStorm – realtime playback of six to seven video streams (can apply
a 3D Picture-in-Picture image over a transition without framedrop)
5. What Canopus editing hardware is supported by EDIUS 2.5?
> DVStorm/DVStorm2 series
products
> DVRaptor RT2 series products
> DVRex RT series products
> Let's EDIT RT/Let's EDIT RT+ (OHCI)
> ADVC1394 (OHCI)
> ACEDVio (OHCI)
> MPEGPRO MVR/MVR1000/MVR1000SX (MPEG)
> Amber/MVRD2200 (MPEG)
EDIUS 2.5 does not directly support EZDV,
DVRaptor or DVRaptor RT. EDIUS 2.0 can run on systems that feature these
boards, but capture and export must be done via the applications supplied
with them.
Canopus ADVC products will also function with
EDIUS 2.5.
6. What system
requirements does EDIUS 2.5 have?
> Intel® Pentium® III 1.0GHz CPU or faster
(2.4GHz CPU with Hyper-Threading support recommended)
> 256MB RAM (512MB RAM recommended)
> 700MB free disk space
> Windows® XP Home or Windows® XP Professional
> Graphics card with hardware-based DirectDraw overlay and 32-bit color
display at a
1024x768 resolution
> Soundcard
> ATA100/5400rpm or faster hard disk recommended (Ultra SCSI 160 or better
is required for playing two or more uncompressed video streams)
> Internet connection for product activation
Note:
EDIUS 2.5's realtime performance varies and increases with CPU power and
available system RAM.
7. Will EDIUS
function with Windows 2000?
If you are running EDIUS with OHCI, EDIUS
will not function on Windows 2000. If you are running EDIUS with Canopus DV
boards, EDIUS can run on Windows 2000, however Canopus recommends running
EDIUS on Windows XP for the best overall system performance and future
peripheral equipment support.
8. Can I run EDIUS 2.5
on more than one machine?
You may do so according to the Software
Licensing Agreement:
“ You may install and use one copy of the
SOFTWARE on one computer. Additionally, You may also make a second copy for
your exclusive use on a portable Computer provided the Software on the
portable computer is not being used at the same time the Software on the
primary computer is being used.”
9. Can I upgrade my
copy of EDIUS 2.0 to 2.5?
Yes – EDIUS 2.5 is available as a free update
that can be downloaded from the
EDIUS Registered User section of the Web site . Alternatively, you may
purchase an upgrade kit, which includes an Installation CD-ROM and printed
User Manual from your local Canopus reseller. For more information,
including pricing, please contact your nearest Canopus office or reseller.
10. Are there any upgrade paths for EDIUS v1.x or
EDIUS LE customers?
Yes – there is an upgrade available if you have a previous version of EDIUS.
11. Does EDIUS 2.5 support importing of projects
created in Canopus Edit applications or Adobe® Premiere® Pro?
Due to the fact that EDIUS is a completely new engine and design, importing
of DVC or PRPPJ files is
not possible.
12. What other Canopus applications “plug” into
EDIUS 2.5?
EDIUS supports Xplode Professional 4.0, PhotoAlbum 2.0, Imaginate 2.0 and
ProCoder (1.x and 2.0) software applications.
13. Does EDIUS 2.5 support other third-party
applications?
Several third-party developers have expressed an interest in creating
plug-ins for EDIUS – such developers include Boris and Inscriber. Canopus
cannot advise the timing of releases for third-party
plug-ins.
14. Will installing
EDIUS 2.5 overwrite my other editing software?
EDIUS 2.5 functions independently and can
coexist with other software installed on the system. If you are using EDIUS
with a Canopus hardware product, such as DVStorm, it is not recommended to
have both EDIUS and another application that uses the DVStorm hardware,
running simultaneously.
15. What
support plans are there for EDIUS 2.5 customers?
Customers who purchase EDIUS will be able to obtain updates and point
releases from Canopus , as they are made available. These updates will
feature bug fixes and new features and will be released periodically (new
features may require update charge). In order to qualify for such updates
the user must be registered as an official EDIUS user. The registered EDIUS
user site will contain a wealth of information, including hints and tips,
Canopus secrets as well as information on upcoming features and events.
16. Will
Canopus support Adobe Premiere Pro in the future with updated plug-ins?
Yes – Canopus will continue to provide support for Adobe Premiere Pro, as
well as resolving current issues with the existing plug-in. Canopus feels
that Premiere integration is important to their customers.
17. Does
EDIUS 2.5 currently contain the following features?
