Realtime Titling and Inscriber® TitleMotion® Pro

EDIUS is capable of unlimited simultaneous realtime title and graphic layers. Motion and opacity controls allow each layer to behave differently. Title Motion Filter effects within EDIUS include Blur, Dissolve, Slide, Wipe and Laser.

Inscriber TitleMotion Pro, included with EDIUS 2.5, allows users to quickly and easily create polished, high-quality video titles, complete with 3D effects and animation. Editors can choose from 200 pre-designed titling templates, and then simply type in their text. In addition to templates, users have the freedom to generate their own title compositions.

Video editors can craft their look through text placement, sizing, kerning, width, leading and slant adjustments. With the TitleMotion FX editor, titles and logos can be brought to life with sophisticated 3D movement and animation keyframing. For added flexibility, TitleMotion can import a background image and produce credit rolls and crawls, which EDIUS can output in realtime.

TitleMotion Pro is a television-quality character generator that uses Inscriber’s award-winning technology employed by broadcasters around the world.
> Inscriber TitleMotion Pro - Create static, rolling,
crawling or animated titles from preset or

  Timeline Exporting and DVD Burning

The output quality of a completed video project is just as important as the editing process itself and EDIUS addresses this by providing fast, high quality, multiple format exporting capabilities out of the box. EDIUS 2.5 can export to DV, uncompressed AVI and even TGA sequences for animation purposes.

Included with EDIUS, is ProCoder Express for EDIUS. This acclaimed, easy-to-use, high-quality transcoding application streamlines the export process by operating within a wizard-style interface. With just a few mouse clicks, ProCoder Express can export an EDIUS project into any popular video format at very high speeds. Supported formats include multipass, variable bitrate MPEG-1 and MPEG-2, Windows Media™, QuickTime™ and RealVideo®. ProCoder Express for EDIUS also includes the full version of DivX Pro™.

With systems that feature a DVD writer drive installed, ProCoder Express can encode and burn DVD discs directly from the timeline, including chapter points as marked from within the project itself.

ProCoder Express for EDIUS not only acts as an EDIUS exporter, but it can operate as a standalone application. This is especially useful for transcoding footage into a format that EDIUS can recognize, and for creating a “watch” folder to automatically encode any video clips that EDIUS renders.

> ProCoder Express - The wizard-style    interface simplifies choosing the
   right export format
> ProCoder Express - Advanced    options are available for fine-tuning
    export format quality settings
> Output a finished project straight
   to DVD, complete with
   chapter points

  15. What support plans are there for EDIUS 2.5 customers?
  16. Will Canopus support Adobe Premiere Pro in the future with updated plug-ins?
  17. Does EDIUS 2.5 currently contain the following features?

1. What is EDIUS?

Canopus EDIUS is a non-linear editing application designed and engineered from the ground up. It is not an enhancement to existing Canopus Edit applications, nor is it a plug-in for any other 3rd party software. EDIUS has been designed to streamline the editing process, and expand on realtime capabilities previously unavailable in non-linear applications, while at the same time delivering the reliability and quality that Canopus editing software boasts.

2. What are the new features in EDIUS 2.5?

An extensive list of new features, including screenshots, can be found on this page.

3 . Does EDIUS 2.5 require any specific Canopus hardware?

No – EDIUS supports both OHCI FireWire-based PCs and notebooks in addition to PCs that feature a Canopus realtime DV board.

4. Is there an advantage to using either OHCI or a Canopus hardware board with EDIUS 2.5?

OHCI functionality provides support for a wide range of systems and importantly, notebook compatibility. Canopus realtime DV editing cards greatly increase the realtime performance of EDIUS 2.5. RAM optimization and the onboard hardware realtime DV codec relieve the system CPU of rendering, providing EDIUS 2.5 with more power for complex, multi-track compositions.

Both OHCI and Canopus realtime DV boards provide realtime DV output from the EDIUS 2.5 timeline.

As a comparative example, o n a Pentium 4 2.8GHz machine (with Hyper-Threading support), the realtime performance difference between a system with OHCI and with a DVStorm will be as below:

OHCI – realtime playback of three video streams (can't apply 3D Picture-in-Picture image over a transition without framedrop)

DVStorm – realtime playback of six to seven video streams (can apply a 3D Picture-in-Picture image over a transition without framedrop)

5. What Canopus editing hardware is supported by EDIUS 2.5?

> DVStorm/DVStorm2 series products
> DVRaptor RT2 series products
> DVRex RT series products
> Let's EDIT RT/Let's EDIT RT+ (OHCI)
> ADVC1394 (OHCI)
> ACEDVio (OHCI)
> MPEGPRO MVR/MVR1000/MVR1000SX (MPEG)
> Amber/MVRD2200 (MPEG)

EDIUS 2.5 does not directly support EZDV, DVRaptor or DVRaptor RT. EDIUS 2.0 can run on systems that feature these boards, but capture and export must be done via the applications supplied with them.

Canopus ADVC products will also function with EDIUS 2.5.

6. What system requirements does EDIUS 2.5 have?

> Intel® Pentium® III 1.0GHz CPU or faster (2.4GHz CPU with Hyper-Threading support recommended)
> 256MB RAM (512MB RAM recommended)
> 700MB free disk space
> Windows® XP Home or Windows® XP Professional
> Graphics card with hardware-based DirectDraw overlay and 32-bit color display at a
   1024x768 resolution
> Soundcard
> ATA100/5400rpm or faster hard disk recommended (Ultra SCSI 160 or better is required for playing two    or more uncompressed video streams)
> Internet connection for product activation

Note: EDIUS 2.5's realtime performance varies and increases with CPU power and available system RAM.

7. Will EDIUS function with Windows 2000?

If you are running EDIUS with OHCI, EDIUS will not function on Windows 2000. If you are running EDIUS with Canopus DV boards, EDIUS can run on Windows 2000, however Canopus recommends running EDIUS on Windows XP for the best overall system performance and future peripheral equipment support.

8. Can I run EDIUS 2.5 on more than one machine?

You may do so according to the Software Licensing Agreement:

“ You may install and use one copy of the SOFTWARE on one computer. Additionally, You may also make a second copy for your exclusive use on a portable Computer provided the Software on the portable computer is not being used at the same time the Software on the primary computer is being used.”

9. Can I upgrade my copy of EDIUS 2.0 to 2.5?

Yes – EDIUS 2.5 is available as a free update that can be downloaded from the EDIUS Registered User section of the Web site . Alternatively, you may purchase an upgrade kit, which includes an Installation CD-ROM and printed User Manual from your local Canopus reseller. For more information, including pricing, please contact your nearest Canopus office or reseller.

10. Are there any upgrade paths for EDIUS v1.x or EDIUS LE customers?

Yes – there is an upgrade available if you have a previous version of EDIUS.

11. Does EDIUS 2.5 support importing of projects created in Canopus Edit applications or Adobe® Premiere® Pro?

Due to the fact that EDIUS is a completely new engine and design, importing of DVC or PRPPJ files is
not possible.

12. What other Canopus applications “plug” into EDIUS 2.5?

EDIUS supports Xplode Professional 4.0, PhotoAlbum 2.0, Imaginate 2.0 and ProCoder (1.x and 2.0) software applications.

13. Does EDIUS 2.5 support other third-party applications?

Several third-party developers have expressed an interest in creating plug-ins for EDIUS – such developers include Boris and Inscriber. Canopus cannot advise the timing of releases for third-party
plug-ins.

14. Will installing EDIUS 2.5 overwrite my other editing software?

EDIUS 2.5 functions independently and can coexist with other software installed on the system. If you are using EDIUS with a Canopus hardware product, such as DVStorm, it is not recommended to have both EDIUS and another application that uses the DVStorm hardware, running simultaneously.

15. What support plans are there for EDIUS 2.5 customers?

Customers who purchase EDIUS will be able to obtain updates and point releases from Canopus , as they are made available. These updates will feature bug fixes and new features and will be released periodically (new features may require update charge). In order to qualify for such updates the user must be registered as an official EDIUS user. The registered EDIUS user site will contain a wealth of information, including hints and tips, Canopus secrets as well as information on upcoming features and events.

16. Will Canopus support Adobe Premiere Pro in the future with updated plug-ins?

Yes – Canopus will continue to provide support for Adobe Premiere Pro, as well as resolving current issues with the existing plug-in. Canopus feels that Premiere integration is important to their customers.
